Training camp has officially come to an end!! The past two weeks have flown by, it’s hard to believe that I was dropped off almost two weeks ago. Training camp has been filled with sessions, worship, team building and so much more. The first week was filled with worship and sessions on God’s character, finding our identity in God, girls session, and forgiveness. Starting out the week I was excited, however, once I was there I recognized how much I was longing for community and fellowship believers my age. My key take away from the first week was, “Saying yes to Jesus meant saying no to the world.”
Week two had some sessions, but was filled mostly with scenarios that we could face going forward. The first scenarios included being put in groups of three, where we had a “house visit” and shared the gospel. The leaders were the “family” and our family “believed in witchcraft.” Another scenario was to pack up like we were going to the airport and they “lost” our luggage and we only had our backpack. So we spent the night only with what we had in our personal items and backpack. They “found” our luggage the next evening. Wednesday, we evangelized. We went to a strip mall/shopping center and paired up. The first couple people we encountered we asked if we could pray for them, and they said no. However, after a little bit we met a man who was very sweet and told us his story. He just worked and stayed at home, and had lost joy. We prayed for him and at the end he said, “Yeah I don’t usually open up to people, but something about y’all made me open up.” At the end of the day, even though we didn’t have the opportunity to pray for many people, we prayed over the man that God lead us to.
Thursday we had squad wars. Before training camp, each squad was assigned a color. For squad wars we dressed in our color and competed against all of the other squads. Some of the games were rock-paper-scissors, dodge ball, and song creativity. Each game we won we got points, and then we had judges for our song creativity. We won in dodge ball, however, we didn’t make enough points to win overall, but we all had a blast. That night was worship and baptism, and I got baptized!! When I was a toddler I got sprinkled, but I have never been submersed. Over the last couple months I had been wrestling with, “do I really need to get baptized?” The two things holding me back was fear of man and pride. That night many kept asking if I was going to get baptized, and I just said maybe. But God said, “you’re getting baptized.” So I said, “Okay God!” Ending training camp by getting baptized was the most radical thing ever.
September 14 finally came and we’re here at the airport! Our plane leaves at 21:35, and we got dropped off at 11:30 because there aren’t drivers for later. So here I am in the airport writing to you while we wait to go through security. We will arrive in Jeffery’s Bay Monday evening and jump into ministry Tuesday morning. When we get there we will jump into children’s ministry and help them before they go on break. I can’t wait to see what God has in-store!
Ways to be praying:
Travel, that we’ll get there safely
Continuing unity for our team
Our ministry host
The kids we’ll be interacting with
The parents of the kids
Again, thank you everyone who has contributed! I’m praying for you and please let me know if there is anything specific I can be praying for you.
In Christ,
Sarah Mei
